Every holiday season, the Capsicum team – at each of our offices – enjoys the opportunity to give back. From the Philadelphia Capsicum office, our team cooked and served a meal for the patients and families staying at The Gift of Life House, as part of their Home Cook Heroes Program. The House provides comfortable and affordable lodging in a safe, welcoming atmosphere for patients and families that are awaiting or receiving transplants in Philadelphia area hospitals. Not only does the house provide a place to stay, but it also helps families to re-establish a sense of normalcy and control by creating a cooperative, supportive atmosphere. On December 8, the Philadelphia office of Capsicum Group volunteered by putting their cooking prowess to the test as they spent the afternoon prepping a dinner for the guests.
The Capsicum team in New York has also prepared a meal for local families this season. The American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge provides a home away from home for patients who are receiving cancer treatments in New York area hospitals. Hope Lodge guests stay in the sixty-room house for free, where they have access to a community kitchen and dining area, private rooms, a quiet lounge and laundry facilities, as well as resources about cancer and how to fight the disease. On December 14, the New York Capsicum team took over the Hope Lodge kitchen for an afternoon to prepare a warm meal for cancer patients and their caregivers.
Finally, the Capsicum members in the group’s Fort Lauderdale office also did their part this holiday season to help support the Miami Ronald McDonald House. Ronald McDonald House charities have been in operation since 1974, as a place that families of ill children can call home during often difficult and uncertain times. With over 353 houses, Ronald McDonald charities had served nearly 5.7 million children and families in 2014. Each Ronald McDonald house serves as a home away from home where families of sick children can remain close to their hospitalized child at little or no cost. Sometimes something as small as enjoying a home-cooked meal can provide a sense of normalcy during such stressful times. Capsicum Group is honored to have been able to volunteer at these amazing facilities, and we look forward to continuing our contributions into the New Year.
